Change this only if your computer is directly connected to the internet and is NOT behind any kind of hardware firewall or router
Please note that due to the many wants Windows-XP can be customized some of your views may look slightly different then the screenshots.
- Click on Start and go to the Control Panel OR Click on Start and go to Settings-->Control Panel
- Dbl Click on Network Connections
- Right Click on Local Area Connection and go to Properties
- Under "This connection uses the following items:" Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties
- Use the following IP Address should be selected, If "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected you probably have a router, and should not be following these directions. Please call if you are unsure. under: "Use the following DNS server addresss:" set the "Prefered DNS Server:" to 64.141.120.20, and set the "Alternate DNS server to: 208.70.56.55
That's it, you're done, hit OK, and Close on the previous screen
